That's exactly how I got my second dose today... someone else no-showed.

When I was first shot on March 2, Walgreens auto-scheduled me for April 1. But... Opening Day. That was never going to fly. So I cancelled that appointment, but Walgreen's site said that I had to wait until March 22 to make a new appointment for Dose 2. However, Walgreens had zero appointments all week.

Last night, I pounded every Wisconsin site I could find to try to find something before Tuesday (I didn't want to do it after Opening Day as I have a full Easter weekend planned... including the postponed family Christmas party). After hours of refreshing and trials and errors, our local Pick N Save grocery store had an appointment for this Friday at 9:00 so I grabbed it.

This morning I got a call from the pharmacist that because of a computer glitch, it was double booked and he had to cancel my appointment. I then spent the rest of today trying to find something, and the best I could come up with is April 5.

Tonight around 6:30 PM, that same grocery store pharmacist called and said that he felt bad about cancelling my appointment, and that he had one dose left over due to a no-show and if I could arrive by 7:00 PM, it was mine.

    I was jabbed by 6:45.

I then went home and cancelled my April 5 appointment.

My point is that I'd bet that there are a LOT of people making multiple appointments, and very likely people forget to cancel (or worse, just blow it off). If you are having a problem getting appointments, call and call and get your name on a waiting list.

Also, if you are in Wisconsin, this Facebook Group "Wisconsin Vaccine Hunters and Angels - Entire State" is an invaluable resource for tips about leftovers and pop-up vaccination sites.

Woke up this morning with a very sore arm. I had a crazy dream too and I see that's one of the side effects after the second dose. I dreamt I was at a company event in NYC at the Waldorf and they gave me room 350 which didn't exist. It got way more bizarre after that.

You're lucky it wasn't room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel!

Received Moderna dose #2 yesterday afternoon. Had a night of crazy dreams and lots of sweating. Woke up today with a nasty headache, body aches, and nausea. Hopefully wont last too long.

Getting my first Moderna in a few hours. My county handed it over to a health service. They seem to be doing a good job with the rollout.

Okay, got the shot. Was a stadium parking lot. Drove in, got shot, got in the 15 minute waiting line. All went like clockwork. Was very fast and efficient. Never got out of the car.

Now just 4 more weeks for number 2!

An interesting possibility that I recently read is that if you have a big reaction to the shot it may mean you've had covid. Supposedly the reaction may be caused by covid antibodies, which respond to the shot. It's not serious, just suggests that there could be a lot of people who aren't aware they were previously infected.

I heard the same but I don't know how in the world I would've gotten it unless it was in the December 2019 - February 2020 timeframe. I left my house 3 times since March 2020. To vote in November and my two shots. I mean... this is how I went out to vote!

I have heard that theory - also that it just means your immune system is kicking in and it's working

2nd Pfizer this morning. Although a little achy, glad to have it done. The number of people getting their 1st, 2nd, or only (J&J) shots I see making posts on various social media is encouraging.

2nd Moderna jab at 1:00p this afternoon. Arm sore. Waiting for the hammer to drop tomorrow - and hoping it isn't too intense.

    Happy/relieved I did it.

At least it wasn't room 411. :) :) :) (I only expect those who have worked a hotel desk long ago to get it, unless you think about it.) :) :) :)

In case folks here are looking for an excuse to head to Vegas...

NV looks to be one of the few states that will give you the poke even if you aren't a resident.
    https://www.immunizenevada.org/covid-19-faq

As with every state, the rules are complicated, and you can't get one just anywhere. Need to look @ the specific requirements for the various locations.
    https://www.immunizenevada.org/county-specific-covid-19-vaccine-plan

I'm tempted to do it on my trip, since it doesn't look like my state is going to get their crap together before 5/1  But I don't really want to be on a plane & having a reaction to my shot either...

Yeah not sure I'd want to waste Vegas time dealing with side effects. Although I got J&J and immediately got on a plane then drove for 6 hours after and was fine. Arm was a bit sore and I was tired but no issues otherwise. Next day I just slept a lot of the day and ran a bit of a fever but that was over 24 hours later. You could probably plan it to where you get it right before you leave and be just fine. Or add an extra day or two to the front end of your trip just in case. I actually got pretty drunk after sleeping all day on day 2 and was no worse for wear the next day. I then spent 2 nights in a casino and was just fine.

Late to the party here but got my first Pfizer shot today. Ideally, I wanted to have both shots prior to my Vegas trip in a few weeks, but I’m still planning on going and being safe (unless I find out more about this CET 6:5 everywhere blackjack bullshit lol).

For what it’s worth, I got vaccinated in Maryland and am a resident of Virginia. I told them while signing up and while in line today with my Virginia license, and they didn’t care, probably because I am in their phase which was nice. Virginia is woefully behind, almost seems like they don’t give a shit for anyone outside of 1B, notwithstanding paying lip service that many areas are (apparently) in 1C, but not heavily populated NOVA so, while it would have been nice to avoid 2 hrs of driving at 7am this morning, one shot down and I’m signed up for my next in three weeks so ultimately, I’m thankful for the next state over.

I totally agree with your view on Virginia! Finally got my first Pfizer shot on Thursday, from Walgreens. My son got his yesterday from CVS. We have been on the so called waiting list and should've been contacted according to their own guidelines. Thankfully the pharmacies are opening up to more categories. Appointments go really quick but they usually open them up around 6 or 7 am. We both have the second ones next month scheduled as well.
