Heres a chip from Paris from the late 90s. This type of chip with the reptile-like finish is known as a Jeton. Jetons are more popular throughout Europe, and the rest of the world, than they are here in the USA. They've never been that big in Vegas but a lot of the high denomination rectangular plaques used at table games have the same type of finish. The only Vegas casinos that have used these Jetons, in the smaller denominations, over the last 20 years or so, were MGM and Paris. There may be one or two others but I am unaware of any. This particular chip, or Jeton, is about a millimeter or so wider than a normal house chip and only about 2/3 as thick. The edges are also tapered, unlike a garden variety casino chip, and has a definitive lacquer-type finish to it. I've tried to learn more about Jetons but there just isn't a lot of information about them online or in books. My limited knowledge of them has mostly been gleaned from collectors. Anyway, thought I'd share the pic as it is definitely one of my favorite chips in my collection.
Very nice collection Mike; seeing all those 'Top Hat' chips is bringing a question to mind of How long have they been in business?
Just saw your post @AndyG. The chips with the Top Hat and Cane mold are made by Paulson Gaming Corp. I know I’ve got some of their chips from Vegas going back to the 80s at the minimum, may be earlier but I’d have to check. Here’s a pretty interesting link about them that I just found. Paulson has definitely been one of the big players in re to casino gaming tokens and chips. Hope this helps..... https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/paulson-history.38141/
Does collecting playable quantities count? I'll be in town next month picking up enough Flamingo $5s to fill in the gaps.
Hi everyone! So this is my Las Vegas chip collection. I'm still looking for a good casino chip display/frame. Does anyone have a recommendation? Please let me know!!
Did the Gold Spike not have $25 chips. I’ve only been in that casino once for about 30 seconds. Just to say I entered it.
I have over 1000 chips and maybe only 1/3 on display right now. I live near Atlantic City but also close to many Pennsylvania casinos so I’ve been collecting for 20+ years.
As a side note if anyone needs chips from any of my locals lemme know. If I don’t have em I’ll go get em lol
I like the Stardust chip... I did get a chance to visit the place before they imploded but sadly this was before I started my chip collection. I do have a players card from there which I think I cool as it has my name on it, but a chip would be a great addition.
