25¢ chip from 211 Union, a Seattle card room, pool hall, restaurant, and bar where I worked as a teenager (1966-1969). It was in pristine condition until I used it as a poker card protector, left it in my pocket, and it went through the wash. The "big spenders" would give me a two-bit tip with them.
I've been cataloguing my chip collection the last few weeks and found a few that I don't think I've posted pics of before. This one is very unique. Its not the rarest or most valuable chip I have but it might be the most interesting. These "Safejack" chips were used at only three BJ tables at Bally's back in 1996 in a short-lived Beta test. The chips had an RFI chip inside and were linked to lights on the table that would register what cards were dealt out. The chips and lights fed data into a computer in the pit with the idea that it would be an efficient means of thwarting card counters but the experiment only lasted a few months. Mikohn was the company that designed the system. These chips were somewhat expensive to the casino so the idea was that you were supposed to exchange these chips at the table for regular house chips. A few of them never got exchanged......
Roulette chip from the Stardust, circa 1978. Prize Unit chip from CC, circa 1968 Win Cards chip from CC, circa 2000. Aladdin chip promoting the pending opening of Planet Hollywood in 2006. I believe Planet Hollywood opened in 2007 though. This is a chip from Caesars promoting the opening of Planet Hollywood restaurant in the Forum Shops in 1994. This last one is from the London Club, the HL room in the second version of Aladdin.
Although it's been 24 years & my memory may be playing tricks on me, I don't recall these...and I'm pretty sure I'd remember if the dealers had made me exchange RFID chips for regular ones before leaving the table. Amazing that they would even attempt this as a card-counting counter-measure... especially with red chips!
I believe it was mentioned on GWAE that some clever fellow circumvented it with lower denom chips taped to his thigh, that would register as the bet UNDER the sensor on the table.
They still needed red chips to pay off $25, $75 etc. BJs at 3/2. You’re correct @topcard, it was a very short experiment that went by the wayside in rapid fashion.
Yep, he did that to make it look like his betting spread was a lot less than it really was when the count was up and he increased his bets. But IIRC the guy who did that did it at the HR. All I can really think of is because maybe the guy doing it at HR was around the same time that Mikohn and Bally's had their little test run going on. Whatever the case, just another example of the sometimes comedic cat and mouse games between APs and casinos.
A few interesting chips here. This $1 chip from the Horseshoe is known, among some collectors, as the "cupcake chip". This chip was a one time issue, in 1974, and placed on cupcakes, for Benny Binion's 70th birthday. If you look close you can see some golden speckles on the chip. Unfortunately most of them have worn off on this chip. This one is a casino that I never knew existed until about a year or two ago. After doing some research I found a matchbook cover on the internet dating back to the mid 40's. The Bon Aire Club was open from 1945-1946 and was located roughly in the area of TI. Baccarat chips from the Dunes and Sands. The Stork Club, North 5th St. (LVB). The Stork Club was in action from 1947-1950. And several assorted chips.....
Silver Slipper chip from the 1950s. This is a pretty cool chip. Stardust Faro chip from 1958; quite possible it was in a chip rack, on one of the Faro tables, on the very day the Stardust opened.
Unfortunately. Bummed out but I'm not going back until there is an effective vaccine. Hopefully that will be the case by next June. Hope your trip next week goes well my man!!! Here's a little chip porn from that night when you dug into your wallet and went all in on a $125 hard 8. 4-4 on the come out roll.....
That was a fun night! I don’t know if you know this, the point was actually five on that roll, after he hit the hard eight, he actually hit the five. I gave it to the dealers.
@EastCoastVegasFan! where's the Jerrys Nugget chip? Me, too. working on my pic of the chip display...
Framing these this week for my friends housewarming gift. He LOVES Borgata so hopefully he loves this.
