Went to pick up a few things at the grocery store and I passed the Kosher for Passover section. I grabbed a 2 liter bottle of Kosher Coke, made with real cane sugar and none of that high fructose corn syrup. It's the one with the yellow cap. I'm going to make a real Rum and Coke. I'm out of Jack Daniels, but might substitute bourbon.
This bottle found its way into my mother in laws suitcase and into my bar all the way from Colorado. Very good pour, really taste the port.
Didn't realize it was cinco weekend. During ma and pa's stay in Arizona they needed to take a few day trips to Mexico. They asked if I wanted a bottle of tequila so of course I said yes. Quick search of brand names that I gave them thinking I would get a Mexican only tequila. They bought me Corralejo. Come to find out you can get it here but at 4 times the price. Plus it was represado. That's okay. Decided first to try a margarita. Then my version of ranch water Both were very good and have a depth that blanco cannot reach. Doubt I will stop buying blanco but good to know represado tastes fantastic.
Wow that was a fun night. I kid, I’m cleaning out my house as I’m about to put it on the market. Disposing of some empty bottles I had in my cabinet.
Also opening this one. I’m considering taking this on a team building retreat even next week to share with coworkers.
A tale of two vermouths: Last night wanted to try a Manhattan Only had M&R dry so a dry Manhattan on the rock it is. Please pretend I didn't forget to include the M&R in the pic. It was fine but I understood why sweet is the vermouth of choice. So today during my putzing around town I picked up a bottle of sweet M&R. So tonight Manhattan on the rock. Much better and am quite enjoying. I bet it is even better if I had a higher proof rye. Without question I foresee experimenting with a sweet martini then on to a perfect martini. Thinking about a negroni but would have to buy bottle of Campari
I haven't had a black Manhattan in a while, and I have a new amaro I haven't tested yet - maybe I will try this weekend. But my old amaro is still open, so....Well - I have many open bourbons, so hopefully it won't be a concern ;-) Our favorite "regular" manhattan is a perfect manhattan - sweet & dry vermouth.
Sadly, only non-alcoholic beer (Heineken 0.0) for me currently, because I just had a total knee replacement a week ago, and I'm taking pain medication that doesn't mix well with alcohol. So I haven't had any alcohol for twelve days now (I stopped drinking a few days before the surgery). I usually have a couple of drinks two or three times a week, so it's a change. It's great looking at all these posts and the tasty beverages everyone is drinking, and dreaming about the day when I will imbibe again!
A tale of two vermouths Part 2: So onto martinis Unsure if olives are the correct garnish but I like and all I have First off sweet martini I like but would only have one. Kinda a drink you have if you have friends and they throw a martini themed party. Olives tasted amazing in only a bit of time in the drink. Next onto perfect martini Holy expletive is this fantastic "perfect" combination of vermouths. Really well balanced Kinda a drink you have if you have friends and they throw a martini themed party and you don't care what else the have to offer. This might be my go to martini
