Kaptyn questions - Should i reserve pickup for 15 or 30 mins after landing?
And would you do airport transfer or hourly if you wanted to make a quick grocery/in and out stop on the way?
And do you prefer to tip in advance or in person?

Kaptyn will monitor your flight and pick you up accordingly. I believe they will wait 30 min after the flight has landed. Once you land you’ll most likely have a text from the driver.

I’d just do the airport transfer. To piggyback on that I always tip cash in advance and when I tip I’ll ask the driver if it’s okay to make a quick stop. Never had a problem…

tipping in advance sort of defeats the reason for a a tip which is for great service. If you get a bad driver, you can not take the tip back or adjust.

As to time, they will look at flight time and arrive to meet it.

Tipping in advance greases the skids if you want to do anything outside of going directly to the hotel.

Before I started doing it, I got "I don't think we'll have enough time" from a couple of drivers when I said I wanted to make a supermarket run, and I'd say "i'll pay for an extra hour if I need to" because I knew we wouldn't need it.

I started tipping the usual $20 when I got in the car and tell them at the same time I want to hit a supermarket and I've never gotten any resistance.

When I called Kaptyn to book my recent pickup, they suggested to me a pickup 30 min after landing, which I agreed with. You have to decide how much time you might need to get to baggage claim, and that includes the tram, IMHO. We actually beat our driver to baggage claim by about 5 min. because she was stuck in traffic (she did text to let me know this).

We did not need a stop en route, but our driver did ask us if we wanted one. Not sure if they all do this.

Agree to disagree. Tipping in advance gets your requests taken care of, usually. A driver with a $20 bill in his pocket is more likely to help you achieve your goals than one who doesn't have the $20. It's like the $20 trick at the front desk. Ask the hotel clerk for a free upgrade with no $20 and you get nothing. Slide them a $20 while asking for a free upgrade and see them start to tap dance.

But yes, if you have no stop requests and are just heading straight to the hotel, no need to tip until the ride is over.

I agree. My comment was thinking about people that include the top when then book it. Not sure if the driver is even aware. But tipping when you get there and asking for extra stop... makes sense.

And I totally agree that tipping in advance while booking is a bad idea.

Yes, Onmi builds a mandatory 20% tip into their price and I hate that, I switched to them because they were cheaper than Presidential and Bell, but I'm going to stop using them because of the tip thing. I can't be sure the driver gets all of it and it makes for an awkward situation.

ETA: I looked at Kaptyn's website, I wasn't aware that they were offering service under their own brand as well as owning Presidential and Bell. When you book, you can choose to add a tip, but they specifically state that the driver gets all of it. I still wouldn't do it that way though.

Your pickup time can be adjusted. I'd rather wait on them than have them wait on me and leave. Personally I let them know at booking that I'm disabled and have to use wheelchair at the airport. So I'm always the last one off the plane. Never had an issue with them adding an extra 30 or 45 minutes so i had time to make it to baggage etc. So whatever issue you may have I would just communicate with them before hand so its handled. If you service includes champagne as most do. You can run in with the driver and pick up a few things but the liquor store they stopped at for us was ridiculous on prices. Probably would be cheaper just to do an Instacart order than to pay extra time for a stop. Unless as others have said you can work something out with the driver.

Kaptyn and the other Limo services are atrocious when it comes to international guests/arrivals...credit cards don't work on their website, no answers to e-mails/calls...the easiest way (at least for us foreigners) is just to call the concierge of the hotel you stay at. They may, or may not charge you for the limo, but it is WAY easier and not exactly more expensive

Has anyone used the Lasxpress non-stop shuttle/limo service for service from the airport to the Golden Nugget?

Weird thing with the Kaptyn site, when booking, you have to put a tip in. Otherwise you can't book. I tried 0% (i want to tip in cash) and it did not work.

VIP Limo will want to know the exact time your flight touches down and the flight number, so they can monitor it in case there are any delays or anything. The driver will meet you at baggage claim, regardless of whether or not you checked any baggage.

I would assume Kaptyn is similar...?

Also, VIP has the tip built in when you first pay which they claim is so you don't have to worry about tipping when you get there; just get in the car and go (eyeroll). I still tip cash anyway because I like feeling like a High Roller... :haha:

    Ugh.

I want to tip a $20 bill. I don't want to tip 10% in advance and then hand the driver a $10 and have a conversation about how I pre-tipped the other half.

Can someone let me know how much the limo services cost, approximately? And am I better off just taking the one from the casino vs one of the outside services?

Only going to Mandalay, so a bit silly. But will be so much nicer than a taxi

    Thanks

I tried to book through Kaptyn yesterday, went to pay and it kept saying error. My wife is like just call. I wasn’t in the mood to talk to someone when a freaking website should just work.

    :grrr:

try the website for the different limo companies. It will give you a quote or ballpark.

As much as I agree in principle, their website does not just work. It hasn't for a long time. I have an account with them, and that part of the website has been broken for as long as I can remember, even back when they were still Presidential. As with many other things Vegas-related, you sometimes have to call to get the outcome you want.

I've found that sometimes the driver is not aware, and I know that I always warn guests of mine that they do not need to tip because it's already added to the fare when I book.

Without getting into the whole tipping debate, a "service charge" is one thing, but if there's something designated as a "tip" on the website, I have absolutely no problem telling a driver or anyone else that I already tipped and if they didn't get it, they need to take it up with their company.
