How do you feel about playing beside a bigger player?

Ha, that's my one pet peeve out here -- I don't mind the drunk people, the partiers, the insane high-rollers, the really privileged people, the really rich people, or much of anything. But every now and then I see a bachelorette party with matching "VEGAS CAN'T HANDLE US!" t-shirts, and I always think to myself, "I think Vegas has this covered".

 

It’s the same dealer as in Rain Man, I’ve read he used to work at CP

 

Makes no difference to me at all... except that, if I'm at 3rd with a 12 vs a dealer 2, and high-roller has 50x more than I do on the hand, I will always ask him if he has a preference for my play - hit or stand.
Most every time, the response is the same - "Play it however you want" (or words to that effect). couple of times, I've been asked to stand & did - & the dealer busted...so win-win.

(It's also nice to pick up a gratitude toke from these guys from time to time).

 

The second dealer is one Nick Mozzola, who apparently was a real LV dealer back then. He's also a 21 dealer in Rain Man, when the Babbitt brothers are "kickin a** in 'Vegas", AND a dealer in Vegas Vacation!!

 

Bet size means nothing to me. I understand the odds of almost every game in the casino, so just hope they are having fun and living within their means. Because I know there are a few who don't. Have gambling fun y'all!

 

I play the lower end of the HL room’s VP ($2 per credit/$10 a hand) at my usual local... it’s interesting when the regular big fish show up and right away there’s a couple employees lurking nearby and the supervisors run regular rounds (mostly because of the frequency of W2G-level hits... like even multi-hand full houses and flushes can generate one ). One of them got dealt aces w/kicker on $2/credit 10-play DDB last night, so that was a nice $40K hit for him I tried hard to not just stare... aspriationally at that beauty; I think the bigger players appreciate a bit of chill and discretion The ones I’ve encountered at HL VP have been pleasant; a few of the bigger slot and table players nearby have been loud and/or stuck up but it’s generally pretty friendly and fun

 

Doesn't bother me unless they are rude.

 

Ha, yeah, if it's a coin-flip like that, I'm totally happy to play the superstitious way. Hell, even when I'm by myself, I'll occasionally stay on a 12 vs. 2 if I'm feeling weird about it. It's tenths of a percent. I usually play by the book, and it's nothing like splitting 10s or failing to double an 11 versus a low card, but it doesn't get my hackles up.

 

The only time I mind playing with a much bigger player is when they sit on my left at the poker table. On the other hand I love when they sit on my right.

 

I'll do from 3rd every time if I just saw 4 or 5 consecutive cards come out without a 10!

 

Having just played craps with what I consider a bigger player and a whale. I observed both types of players to be very impatient.

Gambling in general, is a game of spurts. Whereas most low rollers will try to ride out the waves...bigger players are more hit and run style. They actually pissed me off!!! Coming in and out of the games.

10 or 15 minutes of patience would have netted the whale at least 200k with one roll that I had. Instead, he took a 15k hit and left.

The bigger player lost over 30k in markers over my 4 days. Instead, of riding out the waves. Jumping from table to table.

They’re free to do whatever they want....it’s their money. But they definitely didn’t throw the dice any better than the next guy/girl!!!

 

Pressitagain I also despise when people with free play jump in and get right out if they lose! Drives me crazy

 

Anyone that comes in and buys 5x bet size and just plays 2-3 hands and leaves. Not that I am going anywhere but it seems to ruin the glow buy-in, color-up, next player, repeat.

 

What I am saying in my post is that play how you would normally play. Don’t get caught up by how much they have or buy in for. Yes. That goes for the blackjack players too.

I gotta admit I get mad too when they bring in a relief dealer that's been knocking everybody's d**k in the ground.

 

Black chip(s) player, I do not care much either way. One interesting time thought, a weird older man that apparently made a fortune in high tech, was playing a $500 chip for himself and was playing $5,000 for the dealer. Every hand. Another dealer told me the guy just like to be liked by the dealers and of course they love him.

 

I may be able to offer a little insight into such thinking.

Obviously he may just be terribly lonely.

Equally he may (1) understand that money is just a man made device to make life easier, but (2) Homo Sapiens have become seriously addicted to it, and (3) he, himself, may be able to both see beyond money addiction and recognise that ‘doing good with money’ is well er umm good. So it may be, like billionaire philanthropists, that he sees value in helping others in some way, in this case to get more money to improve their quality of life. He may also want to play at a table where the atmosphere from dealers is good, and this would certainly achieve that. The money itself may be totally irrelevant to him. Which is a good place to be in terms of spiritual growth, answering the so called unanswerable eternal questions, and finding inner peace.

If I was in such a fortunate position I would donate lots to homelessness, medical and educational charities etc, not sure I would make 5000 bets every time for a dealer, but each to their own.

 

If poker or something where a bigger bankroll can make them call/raise more easily when they have weaker hands, it would worry me.

I play 100% slots though, so no impact on my game!

 

Doesn't bother me. Nice to strike up a conversation with someone living an entirely different lifestyle than myself as there aren't many other avenues in life for you to have such an experience. That's one of my favorite things about the social atmosphere of the casino. All kinds.

I've never gotten a toke from palling around on the table with a High Roller but my wife's gotten a few. Wonder what the difference is....

 

I have enjoyed playing with some big players...and some were asses.

Kind of like happens with people in every range of play.

I have gotten as many tips from mid-rollers ($100-$500 in play) as higher rollers.
