Just woke up around 2 PM. Sometimes you have to let your body call the shots. Showered, got a coffee and walked down to Circa. Didn’t get any NFL bets in today but will place a few bets on tonight’s KC/Denver game. Lost $500 without a win over $10 on the new Dune slot. The screen had so much glare from the over the top (literally) screens I couldn’t even tell what was happening. Looks like there’s 3 or 4 bonuses you can trigger. Not going to waste another $500 chasing one. Won a couple hundred back on Pick-A-Pair $2 DDB. Weird game. I need to eat but may wait until 5 PM when Barry’s Downtown Prime opens.

Just roamed around playing slots, video poker, and roulette for the last couple hours. Kept going down $500+ then winning it back. Ended up losing about $1000. Still up $1500 for the trip. About to grab dinner at Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa. Will ask them to put Sunday Night Football on the bar TV’s. Got $600 on the game. Broncos +8.5, under 46.5, and a bunch of props. Not sure what I will do after dinner.

Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa has a more open feel (it is a lot larger) than Andiamo at the D. Over twice as many bar seats, a couple lounge areas with TV’s, and a large dinning area with a bunch of interesting and intimate settings. Stop by shortly after they open one night and walk into the far back dining area. There’s some awesome spots to enjoy dinner and good company back there.

I started with “Fields, Forever” a strawberry vodka, lemongrass, and yuzu cocktail. Wasn’t too sweet, more refreshing than anything. For food I got an 8oz Filet Mignon with a side of Béarnaise and Creamy Horseradish. Also a side of Belgian Mashed Potatoes. A glass of Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon went well with the red meat. Everything was prepared well and the service here is also great. They source their ingredients from the same place as Andiamo so it’s not surprising the two share some menu items. If I’m watching a game or having dinner with friends I think I’d prefer Barry’s; if it’s just me at the bar and I don’t want to watch TV, then Andiamo is my pick.

Lost $80 on the football game. Won a few hundred back on video poker. Quads were hitting on dollars. Lost a couple hundred on slots. Roller coaster ride. Up about $1400 for the trip. Really up more than that since I’ve been using cash for a lot besides gambling. Going bar hopping and then maybe play some Roulette somewhere.

Went to a few bars then wandered back to the D and played two shoes of $100 Baccarat. First shoe cost me $500. Second shoe was one of the choppiest shoes I’ve played and I killed it. Made $2000 on 76 hands with an average bet of $400. Up $2900 on the trip after that wild ride. Going to go back out bar hopping and look for some late night food.

Went to Evel Pie for a couple slices of pizza. Hogs and Heifers for a drink. Blew $2100 in about 10 minutes on $5 DDB Random Rewards video poker ($30 a spin). There were some wild potential payouts along the way. Like $15,000 for 4 Aces with any 2,3 or 4. Even just one 4 of a kind would have kept me in it. Now up $800 for the trip. Leaving Downtown for the Strip tomorrow. Happy to be up after a few days in town even if I was up a lot more earlier today.

Woke up around 9 this morning and packed my bags so I am ready to check out at noon. Walked over to Circa and played some slots. Was up a couple hundred then down $500 pretty fast. Put another $500 in and got back up to $800 of my original $1000. Went ahead and called it on the gambling downtown. Ended up in the black about $600 downtown. Also have some cash in my Circa sports betting app so I’m actually up a little over $1000. Going to put the money in the app toward tonight’s NFL game though, so let’s go with up $600 for the trip.

I love the proximity of the casinos down here and the vintage feel some of the properties have. Sure it’s not as clean, the smoke is worse, and some of the people are sketchy, but I enjoy it for a few days before indulging in the glamour of The Strip. Before heading out I am grabbing breakfast at Saginaw’s and will stop by the hosts office at The D to see how my play was rated.

I’m picking up a rental car after checking into The Cosmopolitan so I’ll be more mobile for a few days. Tomorrow a few friends get in town and we have some fun activities planned for the week ahead. I’m ready to enjoy the festivities this town has to offer with good company.

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying. I’m ready to hit Cosmo hard.

It really is a great property. Amazing staff, some great restaurants, excellent slot selection, and just a beautiful ambiance. Add in a room with a balcony and it’s hard to beat.

Glad you are enjoying it! I’ve spent enough time here to not be rushed anymore. Once you know what the town has to offer and how to navigate it then it becomes easy to have fun at a relaxed pace.

En route to The Cosmopolitan. Hopefully there’s a room ready. Talked to my host at The D to see how my play was rated.

Coin in on slots was $67,500, Theoretical loss was $4000. Actual was a loss of $2200.

Buy in at tables was $12,500, Theoretical loss was $550. Actual was a win of $3500.

Final total was up $1300. Makes sense because I spent cash on a bunch of random things and have some cash in my Circa sports app.

Total theoretical loss was $2850. More than enough to comp my room for 3 nights and cover $500 of room charges. The D, Circa, and Golden Gate all have their own systems so if you are looking for back end comps be sure and ask a host to check all 3 properties. Should be the default, but doesn’t hurt to ask.

Below are some random photos from downtown.

Check in at Cosmo was a breeze. Got a Terrace Studio in the Boulevard tower. I like the layout of the room for one person. Not the best room for entertaining but perfect for me. Going to go play some slots and video poker for an hour then I will get a taxi to go pick up my rental car.

The last half hour or so I walked around Cosmo checking out their slot selection. Saw a few new ones I’ll play later. Put $500 into a video Baccarat machine and turned it into $1200 in two hands. They have these machines with Craps, Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat at Encore, Downtown Grand, and Cosmo. I’m sure they are elsewhere but that’s where I’ve seen them. If I lose a few hundred on slots I like to try and win it back quickly on video Baccarat. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I double my losses.

I took the $1200 to video poker in the high limit slot area and won another $700 on Hot Roll DDB video poker. I should have stopped while I was ahead $1400. Instead I went to the sports book bar and lost the entire $1900 voucher on $2 and $5 DDB. Oh well, if you include my sports bets I’m still up about $800 for the trip. Speaking of sports bets I need to place some bets on tonight’s football game. Going to pick up my rental car soon. Not sure where I will take it this afternoon, maybe to a bar for happy hour somewhere off The Strip.

Picked up the rental. It’s comfortable and will serve us well if we make the drive up to Mt. Charleston. There’s a cold front coming Thursday and it looks like rain. So may need to reschedule our outdoor adventure for Wednesday or Friday morning. First place I went after picking up the vehicle was Walmart on Charleston. The place is full of some interesting characters and nearly everything is locked up. Want some ibuprofen? Got to ask an employee for assistance. I guess theft is a big problem here. I went to get hand and foot warmers. Going to be chilly at night later this week and will likely be walking around outside a lot. They do sell liquor so that’s nice.

I was only a few minute drive from Franki’s Tiki Room so I stopped by for happy hour. Got a Kahiki Kai. Coconut, pineapple, banana and a lot of rum. Was tasty. Last night they had an anniversary party with a special tiki mug release. Apparently it was a madhouse here. I’ll probably stop off at one more bar on my way back to Cosmo. Would also like to pick up some marijuana cigarettes to enjoy on my balcony.

Looking for the best Christmas themed bar in Vegas? Look no further than the The Sand Dollar Lounge. One of my favorite spots in town year round. Open from 3 PM - 4 AM daily. Friendly and fun staff and so many decorations you may feel nauseous. I could have taken 100 different pictures inside. I went with the Bad Santa (served hot) to drink. Spiced Jamaican rum, velvet falernum, spiced butter, oat milk and nutmeg. Amazing and warming. This place is a must stop in December and anytime of year for the live music. Just like Frankie’s, it’s a true Vegas gem.
