Going to be in Vegas in about a week and am looking forward to dabbling in live poker for the first time in the city. I was curious about something that happened recently at one of our local casinos and was wondering if this is something to expect in Vegas. My girlfriend and I like to play together (usually limit poker only) because we find the game fun and like the atmosphere, etc. We've never had any issues sitting at a table together and then last week a guy got up and said that there was going to be collusion going on. He made a huge stink about absolutely nothing and ruined what was going to be a fun game. We, by no means, share information and she mostly kicks my ass if we end up heads up. Has anyone had experience with issues with a couple sitting together at a limit game? Is this something to expect or can we count on our normal good experiences?
    Thanks!

I've played at the same table with my wife multiple times in Vegas and never had an issue. I was even raising her calls to protect her hands when I felt she had a quality hand. No one made a fuss or gave a shit.

If this was a 3/6 or 4/8 game, whoever accused you is taking it wayyyyy too seriously. Probably some bitter person that typically loses at those tables (easy to do with the rake involved).

If you play in a Strip poker room, this definitely shouldn't be an issue.

In a no limit game there would be a chance for collusion but in a limit game I just can't see it.

Couldn't agree more, I think that's why I was so caught off guard by their reaction. Thanks for the response.

At Winstar (in Oklahoma) and in Vegas, I have sat down at a table with 1 or 2 other friends many times, without any trouble. We didn't try to hide that we were friends, and we definitely weren't colluding. I actually felted one of my buddies who tried to bluff when I flopped a set LOL. I can't imagine you'd have any trouble on the strip, just as the others stated
Edit: all of these instances were at 1/2, 1/3, or 2/5 no-limit games (I think those were the stakes, but they were all no-limit)

Abnormal, but crazy things happen when money and beer are involved. It is not the norm and it most likely won't happen in Vegas. I've played with my wife and never had a problem. I've played with other people and their spouses and never felt threatened. Play 2-4 at Flamingo or 3-6 at Mirage and 95% of the time the table will be fun, drunk, and happy. But there is that 5% where you get an angry drunk or an old grumpy local. Either ignore them and have a great time with the rest of the table or simply move to another table. You will be great and have a great time!

I've never had a problem playing with my partner. He actually pushed all in on the flop and I called with the current winning hand and the cheeky sod rivered me. We don't collude at all, we are more likely to be in the pot against each other most of the time.

Hopefully you'll both have a good experience. Good luck.

Unfortunately there are rumors going on about tables like that. While the players may not be related some people cry foul because some of the regulars work together against the rest of the players. Yes, with the 3/6 or 4/8 games the limits are low but some people still claim that there is the possibility of collusion. I have friends who live in vegas and they also say that there is some collusion going on so they don't play on those tables. But this is just a "rumor", I don't think there are any rules at the casinos regarding couples or even of "collusion" going on.

But there should be no problem with a couple playing on the same table in vegas, JMHO.

I wouldn't let that scare you off the tables. There are often friends playing at the same table. Have fun!

Happens all the time at poker rooms, just dont make it a secret that you know each other. The Luxor has a small low level traffic poker room but if you drink there drinks arent watered down. And whatever you do dont do like the other poster stated and raise hands to protect your friends hand in the wild wild west you would get shot for doing that!

I think this player was just having an off day and/or life. They probably should quit poker if they are worried about collusion at what I assume was a low limit game. Situations like this I ignore the player and if need be say "dealer can you ask player at seat whatever to be civil, shut up etc." They don't always help but some do.

You're going to run into some complete jerks at just about any poker venue. LLHE tables are overrun with collusion. The thing is that usually the colluders don't even realize they're cheating and they are so bad at it that they gain no benefit. I wouldn't worry about playing with your wife in Vegas. Nobody rational will care. If they do, they'll just pick up and leave or ask for a table change.

You probably shouldn't play at the same table as your wife if you can't not cheat for her.

I think that you'll find people are a little more laid back in most LV poker rooms because they're on vacation compared to local places. I doubt you guys will have a problem, but..... there are assholes everywhere.

I wouldnt worry. Especially at 1/2. There might be someone who cares, but rarely if ever, someone does.

Well, some years ago at MGM, some at my table did give a shit. A wannabe tough guy from Philly sat down at our table with his wife. He denied it was his wife, but we later learned differently. I had played the day before and those two ended up at my table. I suspected collusion as they sat at different ends of the table and maxed raised damn near every pot. In a 2-4 game. Moving forward to the next day, I saw the couple sitting outside the MGM poker room observing play from a distance (not the rail). They eventually sat down at my table, again sitting at opposite ends. Max raise after max raise. A woman slammed her cards down and yelled, "You two are playing together with all this raising!" Philly tough guy called her a liar. Woman left.. A few minutes later woman's husband stormed into the poker room wanting a piece of the Philly tough guy. Philly was probably 5'10" 175, other dude 6'5" 280. Comical sight. Too much excitement for me and I colored up.

This is the thing. Local poker rooms have the same core group of clients day after day. They know each other and how they play etc. and if they see a chance to take advantage of a new face they do not hesitate to use it. (They usually put on a front of how buddy buddy they are but in reality, in most cases, do not like each other) The poker room treats them differently than the odd new comer as they are the meat and potatoes of the revenue stream. I am always way more cognizant of these players than husband and wife coming in for a night of entertainment.

Be prepared to catch some flack.

2-4 at the Flamingo during my bachelor party with a couple friends.

Drunk, downing more drinks, puking money onto the felt (one of the friends had never played before) and having a great time (clearly we were together).

Guy beats my smaller full house with a bigger full house and accuses me of collusion.

It took everything I had to stand up, calmly recommend to him that he shouldn't accuse someone of cheating as you are raking their chips and excused myself from the table to cool off
