Not that surprising. Majority of the visitors are still drive in. McCarran numbers are still low compared to 2019.

But also, these are people who were contact traced. I'm guessing mostly locals. And only those who agreed to participate. I don't have any idea how many tourists they are able to contact trace when they are exposed in Vegas and get sick at home.

These numbers are a month old and not really enough to extrapolate too far. Certainly interesting information and some food for thought. But I'm not sure how much it really tells us.

So apparently you have to (a) get a positive COVID-19 test and (b) be willing to self-report to be tallied on the tracing list. Of the people on the list, I'd be interested to see the breakdown of who got tests that were provided and required by their employers vs. who took tests on their own initiative, and I'd also be interested to know how many employees fear to say anything for risk of being fired or being put on a blacklist.

Of the people who are counted on the list, how many of them visited, and are counted, at multiple casinos on the strip and downtown?

It is possible the sky will fall and candy will grow after words. I love when they say it's possible. It must also be not possible then as well

Since this is Clark County data. People that have dealt with Clark country agencies.

Many visitors would not be in the data - I would assume that many people that get infected do not find out until a week later when they are home. And do not call back to Vegas and become part of their contact tracing. If course, I have no idea how much gets fed back to them from other states.

I’m here now and they are very very strict with the masks. Take a sip of water and before you can set it down they are there telling you to put your mask on.

This is a document that was leaked to journalists. I have no idea what the other data is that would answer these questions.

Again, here is what we know. These are people who have agreed to participate in contact tracing, either through the app or over the phone, back in August. Most are probably Clark County residents. Some of those who tested positive and came in contact with someone at a casino, may be casino employees. We don't know the break down of who responded.

There have been over 75,400 positive people in Nevada. 63,877, as of today, in Clark County alone. Clearly, this list is not representative of all those people.

Cosmo has double the cases as Bellagio, which is number 2... I'm surprised Bellagio is on there, as I've been out there twice since COVID, and it's been quiet, and thet seem to take it seriously. I started going again in July, so maybe they were worse in June. Caesars Palace has had much larger crowds, but they are probably the best at enforcing the rules, but Bellagio felt safe to me...

Also positive tests are reported back to your local health org..

A water ski team in rural northern WI had like 20% of the counties positive tests early this summer but the skiers were from Madison

    Some takeaways.....

"Instead, they represent the locations most frequented by people during the time period when they probably became infected."

Covid has a 14 day incubation period. Can you recall everywhere you have been in the last 14 days? I know I can't. These locations represent places someone went in the 14 days prior to beconing sick. Note, there is no total number of individuals who make up this list, so its value really isn't much. It's very likely people are counted multiple times in the same "exposure".

There's alot of guessing involved in contact tracing. The one time I have been involved in it (for a different disease process) the health department was trying to get me to make alot of guesses just to get the boxes checked on their end. Once there is community spread of a disease the value of contact tracing is limited.

"1 in 4 infected county residents who spoke with disease investigators in the past month had visited a hotel, motel or resort."

Note it says COUNTY residents. Does that mean the entire list is county residents only? Who knows, they don't say. Also note it says "visited". People who "visit" in the course of their work, such as physically working in the casino or even delivering something have "visited" a hotel or resort and are likely included in this list. Based on the way their statement is worded in the article the questionnaire being read by the contact tracer probably says "have you visited a Hotel, motel, or resort in the past month". That doesn't exactly quantify how they visited or for how long, in what capacity, ect...

Long and short of it, the story was written for attention grabbing headlines. A big nothingburger.

I was at Cosmopolitan for 3 nights end of June and Labor Day Weekend. I got back home (Los Angeles) and got tested for work a few days after visit. Both test came back negative. I felt safe and kept mask on whole time on casino floor while playing slots. I felt safe all around.

Did you visit other properties during your stay to compare the atmosphere and feeling of safety??... Stayed at Paris in June on a weekend. Stopped by Cosmo... Cosmo was 4x more crowded and with more young people compared to paris. They even used Clique as a club which had a long line. Curtains were closed and no way people had masks inside there
