I have the option of spending my two nights at either the Mirage or the Monte Carlo, Mirage is $48 a night and Monte Carlo is $45 a night.

I have a couple friends staying in the Monte Carlo but I'm not too terribly worried about being able to meet up with them, we should manage just fine regardless of the distance.

A couple considerations we have I suppose:
    - Pool, the wife likes a relatively calm, but interesting (not dull like Bally's, sorry Bally's :(--) pool where the environment is.. just not a concrete hole in the ground. She likes to sit in a lounge chair and read, then take a dip, then read more. She didn't like the Flamingo pool (too crazy), she didn't like the Mandalay Bay pool (too many frat. boy, alchoholic wannabes a couple swigs away from soiling themselves), she DID like the Cosmo pools (boulevard was her favorite) and I believe she would like the Ceasar's pool. I've never seen the Mirage or Monte Carlo pool so I can't make a judgement on the crowd or environment.
    - Quality of rooms, we've been in both casino's, personally I liked the Monte Carlo a little better than the Mirage, though that might have been partially because when I was in the Mirage we ate at the god aweful brazilian steakhouse place and when I was walking through the Monte Carlo, I was absolutely schlammerhaggen (to borrow a word from my friend). My wife and I both just spent an entire night getting wasted on free mixed drinks, I think I liked the Monte Carlo but then again, I've "liked" some pretty stupid things while wasted before.

Anyway, your help on which place you would stay considering both room quality and pool environment would be really helpful. If you have other questions for me, let me know :)

When I was last at the Monte Carlo, the wave pool was broken and the main pool had a drastic leak. The loungers were in a sad need of pressure washing, they were filthy with sun tan gunk.

I know for my wife and I we would go for Monte Carlo: if we had friends staying there then we'd probably rather be close than so far away (like just meeting up for breakfast is either walk all the way down there or take a taxi just to have some food and decide whats the plan for the day), we like the property, like the casino, great selection of dining options between MC, NYNY and Aria, and lots of other Mlife properties in the area where we can gamble.

Pool-wise I've never seen the Mirage's pool. The Monte Carlo pool area is basic overall but it seems to be a fair size with lots of places to sit and there is a beach area where you can go to get away from the crowds at the pool for some quiet.

And we do like Mirage just for gambling there are a lot of cheap places in the area but for gambling at a nice property your only choices are Mirage (which I think has a great casino and I like the layout of it), Caesars (which is really big and spread out and has a lot of old time games for slot selection which for some is a plus and others a minus) or Venetian/Palazzo where to me there is so much perfume in the air it actually burns my lungs.
